The Skunk and Tiger

Check out this fun link. The Guardian, a United Kingdom mag asks 10 scientist "how will the world (mankind) end?" Each idea is rated and perfect to cheer you up for the Holiday season. My favorite hypothesis is the Killer Robots one. It reminds me of Bender from Futurama. "Hey Baby, Wanna Destroy All Humans."

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Sam got to pre-taste the mashed potatoes, and then the sweet potatoes, and then he said "potato."

Saw the new Harry Potter movie today. I think its the best one yet. Althought I never read them, Anne loves the books and we had to see it. First movie in a long time. Sam was happy to hang out with his Grandparents.

Don't let the Religious Reich tell you any different, Harry's a good kid.

It is Saturday and that means it is time for this week's Idiot Wind Blowing. This Quote is actually two weeks old but Fox News has been trying hard to down play it or SPIN it. Here it is unedited and SPIN FREE. From what used to be the only talk radio choice for me when I worked in Kentucky- The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: Hey, you know, if you want to ban military recruiting, fine, but I'm not going to give you another nickel of federal money. You know, if I'm the president of the United States, I walk right into Union Square, I set up my little presidential podium, and I say, "Listen, citizens of San Francisco, if you vote against military recruiting, you're not going to get another nickel in federal funds. Fine. You want to be your own country? Go right ahead."

And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead."

----I believe this is what Ted Copple was talking about when he explained that the American public has become intellectually lazy.

I agree most Americans today do not seek analysis in news, they only pick and choose sound bites and simplistic answers to very complicated questions, often siding with the one who shouts the loudest, or does not challenge their insecure and small world view. Is this why it has taken so long for Americans to wake up to what is really going on in Iraq?

President Bush, his chicken-hawk administration, the corporate run media, and their blinded supporters continue to hide behind the Troops, the Children, and the Flag, while dismantling here what they claim to be building over there.

Here is a look at this year's christmas Photo. They did not have to try very hard to make Sam smile. It snowed today, and he was very interested in what has going on outside while we drove home. He is also getting very good at dancing. I'll have to find a way to post video on this Blog. Meanwhile, take a look at my URL Image. I love that little red radio, but not as much as I love Sam and his Mom.

Ellen Goodman wrote a shocking but not surprising editorial this last Sunday. Apparently there is this new vaccine that has been very successful in preventing the virus that causes most cervical cancer (HPV). Great News Right? Well not for Tony Perkins and his gang of charlatans--the Family Research Council (FRC). They firmly stand against any preventive vaccine that would make sex safer for women. It seems eradicating diseases interferes with their abstinence ONLY program. The Religious Right would prefer a single woman to die of cancer for having premarital sex. Don't forget a woman could be married and monogamous and still be in danger of getting this virus if her husband is unfaithful. This woman is damned by the FRC and other extremist christian groups. How is it Pro-Life to allow disease to spread? Tony Perkins claims he would not inoculate his own daughter. Will someone please tell this fundamentalist father of the year that his daughter is not his property. The US is not some Christian version of Sudia Arabia. At least not while Dubya's poll numbers are this low. If his daughter desires to have adequate health care it is her God given right, no matter her age or who her dad is.
I am for abstinence but not as an absolute. Every man and woman has a right to information and the right to choose for themselves. Real research has proven abstinence ONLY education increases unsafe sexual behavior.
It is disingenuous for an organization to have "research" in their credo when they have never conducted any validated scientific research in their history. Sorry, taking skewed polls and shaking a bible is not science.

It's funny while typing this Rage Against the Machine came up on my shuffle. It's the song Township Rebellion, with the line "when ignorance reigns life is lost/shackle your minds when your bent on the cross." How fitting.

I would like to start a tradition on my Blog to have a stupid quote of the week. I decided to call it Idiot Wind Blowing, with respect to Bob Dylan's classic song of a similar name. This week's quote comes from a personal favorite of mine Pat Robertson. He is responding to the very smart people of Dover PA that decided to vote out all 12 school board members who wanted to weaken the foundation of science in the public school with the non-science "intelligent design".

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover, if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city, and don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin, and I'm not saying they will. But if they do, just remember you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, then don't ask for his help, because he might not be there."-Pat Robertson

"You're an Idiot, Babe. Its a wonder that ya' still know how to breathe."-Dylan

Here is an Icon of Jesus as the Sower. I'm just trying to learn how to post images I find on the web.

Alright, I got to work and posted some links. Check them out. First I have Media Matters where you can find the real media bias. The Huffington Post-its like the Drudge Report only for smart people. Americans United, one of my favorite organizations, along with the ACLU, don't listen to James D Kennedy and other deceitful nay-sayers -- the ACLU protects all forms of free speech, including Christians. Talk Origins for the truth about Evolution and the psedpsedoscience Intelligent Design. Greek Orthodox Achdiocese-my religious roots. My friends in Grand Rapids should check out Thom Hartmann's radio program on AM 1230 weekday Noon-2am. Probably the best informed and honest political talk show in the country, defenatly the best in West Michigan. Ed Shultz is also great. My friend Chris should check out Bruce Bricford's web page. Old time favorites Guided by Voices, U2, Stephen King, The Onion, MST3K, and other good friends. Check 'em out.

It's hard to find time to go and see a movie now that my wife and I have an awesome son. Most of the previews I see on televison look overdone and rehashed. Is there anything new worth seeing? I wanted to see the new Joss Whedon movie-Serenity? The last enjoyable one I viewed was War of the Words, but just about everyone else I talked to did not like it. My friend boycotted it becasue Tom Cruse is insane. I can suspend reality when I watch a movie, I can forget for two hours that Tom Cruse is brainwashed. Oh Well, Scientology is no worse then other fanatical Religions. Anyway I'm on a rant again. Just need to post. Been to Long. Man, my Blog needs work. I don't know what I'm doing with this thing. I don't even have any links that are functioning. I'll post some new photos soon.
